ListFiltersSyntax

This page provides the List Filters lexicon. The terms described below encapsulate the feature set for the List Filters -- thus, it is necessary to understand the terminology in order to fully comprehend the full range of List-Filter features.

  • Match String: This is the string that the filter will attempt to match (locate) within the message.
  • Match Location: This specifies the part(s) of the message over which the Match String is active. You may specify a specific header (e.g., "Subject"), or one of the following keywords: header, body, or anywhere.
  • Context: The filters can operate on posts to the lists, or on messages sent to the command interface, or both. To specify which, use one of the following keywords: posts, commands, or anywhere.
  • Action: This keyword specifies the action that Gazelle should take when it has successfully detected the Match String in a message. Options are: moderate, reject, redirect, replace, or drop.
moderate: Submit the message for moderation.
reject: Reject the message. A rejection message will be sent to the user when this happens.
redirect: Reject the message, and send a message to the user suggesting a different list that may be more appropriate for the topic.
replace: Replace the Match String with a pre-selected replacement string.
drop: Quietly 'drop' the message on the floor (i.e., ignore the message entirely). This is similar to "reject," except that no rejection message sent to the user.
  • Expiration: This is the date on which the filter will expire. Note: The filter will run on the final day; it will be removed at the start of the next day. The format for the expiration date is yyyymmdd.
  • Notify: This denotes whether Listmoms who have the "Gazelle Messages" option set to "y" will receive a notice whenever the filter fires. Options are yes or no.
